2012 Update
First, thanks to all you boaters who are reporting sightings of sea
turtles. We know that the northeast coast of the U.S. is an important
feeding area in the summer and fall for leatherbacks and for juveniles of
three species: loggerheads, Kemp's ridleys and green sea turtles. An
adult loggerhead may also be encountered very rarely. Your sightings are
helping us gain more information about their occurrence and habitat use.
You're also helping to spread the word among boaters to watch out for sea
turtles to avoid boat strikes.
With warmer water, we may see earlier arrivals of sea turtles. Boat happily, with respect for the ocean and its inhabitants.
If you see an entangled or injured sea turtle in need of immediate assistance
call
800-900-3622, the Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies' Disentanglement
Hotline.
